Q & A

Why self-publish over traditional publishing?

I chose self-publishing over traditional publishing to retain total control over my writing, the direction I want my story to take, and 100% of the royalties. Another upside to self-publishing is that you decide when your book gets released. Editing is the most crucial part which can be done by the writer or the publisher. Overall, the writer is doing all of the work.

What authors influenced you the most?

As a young adult, reading novels by Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Omar Tyree, and Eric Jerome Dickey was a considerable influence. Characters in stories like "For the love of money," “Fly girl,” and “Milk in my coffee” reminded me of people I knew in real life.

How do you decide which stories to write about?

The thing about creative writing is that the writer chooses where the story goes, and there's no limit to where the writer's imagination can take them. That is the best part of storytelling. I write about where my imagination takes me. Creative writing is a skill. You can write, but can you tell a story?

What is an obstacle you may have had to face while writing No Laws In Love?

One obstacle I often face is knowing when to stop the story. Because I don't usually create an outline when writing, my stories can go on and on; the primary focus is to tell a great story while keeping the reader interested.
